politician and former leader of the opposition in the National Assembly Raja
Riaz formally joined the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) after meeting
with the party’s supremo Nawaz Sharif in London on Saturday.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Talking to
journalists before his meeting with the PML-N leadership in London, Riaz hinted
at contesting the upcoming general elections from Faisalabad. He said that the
matter would be discussed with the PML-N supremo and clarified, “It is not
necessary that a decision [in this regard] is made today.”<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Responding
to a question, he said that PML-N had a large vote bank in Pakistan as people
believe that the country was made by the party. He maintained that the PML-N
supremo would be given a grand welcome upon return.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">To another question,
the former leader of the opposition said that elections are likely to take
place around mid-February next year. During the meeting, Riaz expressed his
confidence in Nawaz's leadership and joined the PML-N. Former Prime Minister
Shehbaz, ex-finance minister Ishaq Dar and other leaders were also present
during the meeting.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Riaz won a
MNA seat on the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) ticket in the 2018 general
election but the party terminated his basic membership for violating the party
discipline. PTI formally expelled Riaz in August 2023. It is pertinent to
mention here that Riaz had been a “jiyala” for 35 years. The Pakistan Peoples
Party (PPP) leader had jumped the ship and joined PTI in May 2016. <o:p></o:p></span></p>

Chief Minister Punjab and president PTI Ch Pervaiz Elahi has been arrested by the
Anti-Corruption Establishment (ACE) with the help of Punjab Police on Thursday.
He was arrested from outside his Lahore
residence. Elahi was appointed as the PTI president in March this year only a
month after him along with 10 former MPAs left the PML-Q to join the PTI. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Pervaiz Elahi
was wanted by the Anti-Corruption Establishment in two corruption cases. </span>The
police had conducted several raids during the past few days to arrest the PTI
leader but returned empty-handed.<span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;"> </span>The development came after an anti-corruption court last week discarded
his interim bail over his failure to appear before the court citing health
issues.<o:p></o:p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">His arrest
was required in the Rs 70 million corruption case related to the embezzlement of

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">The

flee and added that he was wanted in various corruption cases.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">The

<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">The interim

carried out at his residence. He was wanted. Today, out of the blue, a couple
of bullet-proof cars came out [of the house]. He was in one of the cars."<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Mir said
that law enforcers tried to stop and check the bullet-proof cars at a
check-post. The minister said that the former chief minister resisted the
arrest and was not opening door of his bullet-proof vehicle, therefore, the law
enforcers had to break the side mirror of his vehicle.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

American Department of Labour (DOL), the number of minors employed in violation
of child labor laws in fiscal year 2022 increased 37% over 2021 and 283% over 2015.
The number of minors employed in violation of hazardous occupation orders
increased 26% over Financial Year 2021 and 94% over Financial Year 2015.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Remarkably,
this year, legislators in 6 states have proposed 8 bills that make it easier to
exploit kids for profit. Iowa Governor Kim Reynolds has signed the infamous
bill to expand child labor in the state. The legislation allows kids as young
as 14 to work six-hour shifts on school nights, and to work dangerous jobs in
demolition, on assembly lines, operating power saws, and more.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">At a time
when serious child labor violations are on the rise in hazardous meatpacking
and manufacturing jobs, several state legislatures are weakening or threatening
to weaken child labour protections. The trend reflects a coordinated
multi-industry push to expand employer access to low-wage labour and weaken
state child labor laws in ways that contradict federal protections, in pursuit
of longer-term industry-backed goals to rewrite federal child labor laws and
other worker protections for the whole country. Children of families in
poverty, and especially Black, brown, and immigrant youth, stand to suffer the
most harm from such changes.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Both
violations of child labor laws and proposals to roll back child labor
protections are on the rise across the country. The number of minors employed
in violation of child labor laws increased 37% in the last year and at least 10
states introduced or passed laws rolling back child labor protections in the
past two years.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">The Chicago
Workers Collaborative, which is a workers’ rights group, found workers as young
as 13 years old working through third-party staffing agencies at a factory for
Hearthside Food Solutions factory in Bolingbrook, Illinois, a Chicago suburb.
Hearthside Food Solutions is an Illinois-based contract manufacturer and
private bakery that makes and packages products for several name-brand cereal
and snack brands. In early March protesters gathered outside a warehouse of
Hearthside Food Solutions to call attention to the problem.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmvTUYhcsYUSAL2aE9V7OMRiIbltV_oVtVKKebBUX4VYoqK-_Jj-srE48CKI8CkjLfcf8mho2v2U2oQksg-Ttef7WTf1Gh9e7Igo6ItzGxECNYYnCck4UoquPkNtPxowORVRlc_t9q8Vt9m4ZbrjLbhJqytaSteSFycA6WY-Mxc_qikdkFdsbBWDig/s696/Trabajo-infantil-Iowa-explotacion-laboral-EEUU-696x522.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="522" data-original-width="696" height="240" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEjmvTUYhcsYUSAL2aE9V7OMRiIbltV_oVtVKKebBUX4VYoqK-_Jj-srE48CKI8CkjLfcf8mho2v2U2oQksg-Ttef7WTf1Gh9e7Igo6ItzGxECNYYnCck4UoquPkNtPxowORVRlc_t9q8Vt9m4ZbrjLbhJqytaSteSFycA6WY-Mxc_qikdkFdsbBWDig/s320/Trabajo-infantil-Iowa-explotacion-laboral-EEUU-696x522.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><span style="font-size: 12pt;">A young
child working nights in hazardous conditions to feed their family is a type of
story some expect to hear from so-called underdeveloped, poverty-stricken
countries. But in the United States, child labour is on a steady increase as
more cases are being exposed and investigated. Hundreds of American companies
are illegally employing children, according to the U.S. Department of Labour.
In many of these cases, the minors are unaccompanied migrants who have crossed
the southern border of the U.S.</span><p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">In February
2023 the U.S. Department of Labour (DOL) issued new findings on an ongoing
investigation of Packers Sanitation Services, Inc. (PSSI) for illegally
employing over 100 children between the ages of 13 and 17 in hazardous occupations
at 13 meatpacking facilities owned by JBS, Cargill, Tyson, and others (DOL
2023). These children worked illegally on overnight shifts cleaning razor-sharp
saws and other high-risk equipment on slaughterhouse kill floors. At least
three of them suffered injuries, including burns from caustic cleaning
chemicals. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Multiple
factories in Hyundai-Kia’s supply chain in Alabama are also under DOL
investigation for employing children as young as 14. Many of these children are
from Guatemalan migrant families. Like meatpacking plants across the Midwest, many
of the Alabama [auto] plants relied on staffing firms to recruit low-wage
assembly line workers. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Violations
uncovered in recent federal enforcement actions are not isolated mistakes of
ill-informed individual employers. PSSI, one of the country’s largest food
sanitation services companies, is owned by the Blackstone Group, the world’s
largest private equity firm (PESP 2022). DOL investigators found PSSI’s use of
child labor to be “systemic” across eight states, “clearly indicating a
corporate-wide failure.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Most
violations occur in places where it's appropriate for minors to work, meaning
teenagers are working too many hours at a grocery store or operating a fryer
and staying too late at a fast food chain. For example, in 2022, more than
100 kids across several MacDonald’s in Pennsylvania were illegally
scheduled to work too many hours or too late at night. Subway, Burger King and
Popeyes restaurants in South Carolina were fined for similar violations in
2022.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">The U.S.
generally has good child labor laws, except for agriculture, says Reid Maki,
director of child labor advocacy for the National Consumers League and
coordinator of the Child Labor Coalition, which works to end abusive child

provisional GDP growth rate shrinks to 0.29 percent for the outgoing financial
year 2022-23 against the revised figure of 6.1 percent in the last financial
year 2021-22. The target of GDP growth rate for 2022-23 was 5%. The curbs
imposed on the imports to avoid sovereign default are the main cause of this
low growth. The industrial sector is hit the hardest. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Despite
severe floods, the agricultural sector still posted 1.6% growth, beating all
forecasts of contraction due to a devastating impact on crops. The industrial
sector contacted by 2.94%. But the services sector -- the single largest sector
in the economy -- showed nominal growth of 0.9%.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">The
government has missed all sectoral targets, thanks to its economic
mismanagement that also caused massive layoffs and contributed towards the
59-year-high inflation rate of 36.4%.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">This low
level of economic growth means that poverty and unemployment are on the rise.
But no official data is available regarding the unemployment and poverty. The size of the GDP in the rupee term stood at
Rs 38.927 trillion for the outgoing fiscal year against Rs 38.814 trillion for
the last financial year 2021-22.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">According to
the Chief Economist of Planning Commission Dr Nadeem Javaid, the devastating
floods, lingering political instability, global recession and Ukraine war
accelerated the woes for Pakistan economy but the resilience shown by the
country’s different economic sectors produced a slight positive growth in the
current fiscal year.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOoXGto-K51nSiqRLzbr48vRkIdWCJHEgk1PLIJrRRynO3rNLXyKlNGvQHDvye00Ns3mzlvzyhS8xRu2bn1oTBsTWDxQw0JTYoAyUa6F8-Vr3QCGFRAbhAB3ohmpclvrH6CcBgsewcbmy16SWEwacGBeyxt4ZYaCGaBkoxc1YWZv_WBVbRBcOwyZuP/s768/Economy_V106-768x433.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="433" data-original-width="768" height="180" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEhOoXGto-K51nSiqRLzbr48vRkIdWCJHEgk1PLIJrRRynO3rNLXyKlNGvQHDvye00Ns3mzlvzyhS8xRu2bn1oTBsTWDxQw0JTYoAyUa6F8-Vr3QCGFRAbhAB3ohmpclvrH6CcBgsewcbmy16SWEwacGBeyxt4ZYaCGaBkoxc1YWZv_WBVbRBcOwyZuP/s320/Economy_V106-768x433.png" width="320" /></a></div><span style="font-size: 12pt;"> </span><span style="font-size: 12pt;">The National Accounts Committee (NAC) meeting,
which met under the chairmanship of Secretary Planning Syed Zafar Ali Shah,

growth of 1.55 percent, the industrial sector contracted and achieved negative
growth of -2.94 percent and services sector achieved positive growth of 0.86
percent.</span><p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">The
agriculture sector experienced the overall growth of positive 1.55 percent, the
growth of important crops remained negative 2.49 percent but the production of
wheat at 27.6 million tons helped the agricultural sector to achieve positive growth.
The cotton achieved just 4.5 million bales and achieved negative 41 percent
growth. The livestock achieved positive growth of 3.78 percent.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">The LSM
growth remained negative at 7.98 percent but interestingly small-scale
manufacturing achieved positive growth of 9.03 percent. The construction sector
achieved negative growth of 5.53 percent. The electricity generation and gas
distribution achieved positive growth of 6.03 percent which also resulted in
raising eyebrows. The services sector achieved positive growth of 0.86 percent.
The wholesale and retail trade clinched negative growth of 4.46 percent. <o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">The
government has inflicted heavy losses on the economy by devaluing the rupee and
increasing the utility prices in the hope of the getting a deal from the
International Monetary Fund (IMF). In the end, neither the IMF programme could
be revived nor could the economy be saved from disaster.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">It is a

governor Ron DeSantis has formally entered into the republican presidential
race 2024. DeSantis is ready to give tough time to rightwing populist Trump. His entry into the 2024 White House race
against former Republican president Donald Trump sets up a clash of the
Republican Party’s two leading figures as the Florida governor attempts to
topple a man who has dominated the GOP for the last seven years.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Trump
regards DeSantis as his most serious contender in the primaries. DeSantis so far has tried to remain above the
fray, ignoring Trump’s escalating attacks on everything from his record to his
personality.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">But DeSantis
took only veiled swipes at his chief rival without mentioning him by name. It
is a strategy reminiscent of 2016, when Trump’s army of Republican rivals
failed to go after the candidate directly for fear of alienating his supporters
and assumed wrongly that he would flame out on his own.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">“I am
running for president of the United States to lead our great American comeback,”
he said during an event with Twitter owner Elon Musk and tech investor David
Sacks. “But we know our country’s going in the wrong direction. We see it with
our own eyes. And we feel it in our bones.”<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">With those
remarks, DeSantis, who won reelection in resounding fashion last fall and
captured the attention of a party longing to turn the page from recent defeats,
opened up a new chapter in the campaign to take on President Joe Biden in 2024.
DeSantis stepped into the Republican primary bit late but begins his bid with
more campaign cash and support in the polls than anyone except for Trump.<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">

to you is this: If you nominate me you can set your clock to January 20, 2025,

oath of office as the 47th president of the United States,” DeSantis said. “No
excuses, I will get the job done.”<o:p></o:p></span></p><p class="MsoNormal"></p><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGH4_cueu594EUjOFQuq-Q-Vaepxd_MgYklmGzJLdDyQea4Lo7hce1jwXVFbO8PTGp_TbuKTxNw1XVnM86oNymogntMZhjBc6NkBVBjOhA2CiR4i9uHSqe2cIz3G-8t0D5WOhGpstTK36VlmX2ipjG2MgoIogGlaiCCGZ8gYIWcPER94rcfEOtxwk_/s560/230524-one-time-use-ron-desantis-ew-242p-b9ac84.webp" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="373" data-original-width="560" height="213" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiGH4_cueu594EUjOFQuq-Q-Vaepxd_MgYklmGzJLdDyQea4Lo7hce1jwXVFbO8PTGp_TbuKTxNw1XVnM86oNymogntMZhjBc6NkBVBjOhA2CiR4i9uHSqe2cIz3G-8t0D5WOhGpstTK36VlmX2ipjG2MgoIogGlaiCCGZ8gYIWcPER94rcfEOtxwk_/s320/230524-one-time-use-ron-desantis-ew-242p-b9ac84.webp" width="320" /></a></div><span style="font-size: 12pt;">“There is no
substitute for victory. We must end the culture of losing that has infected the
Republican Party in recent years,” DeSantis said on a Twitter Spaces debut. “We
must look forward, not backwards,” he added.</span><p></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">In an
interview later with Fox News, he said he believed all candidates should
participate in the planned GOP primary debates, which Trump has threatened to
boycott. “Nobody’s entitled to anything in this world,” he said.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">Now that
he’s officially in the race, DeSantis’ well-funded super PAC is poised to
intensify its attacks against the former president. His team plans to focus on
policy differences between the two Republicans, making the case that Trump has
“lurched left” on some issues — most notably, abortion.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">“We’re going
to amplify him and his voice, and when necessary, contrast with the former
president. But right now that contrast is really one is lurching left and one
is fighting,” said David Polyansky, senior adviser to the pro-DeSantis super
PAC Never Back Down.<o:p></o:p></span></p>
<p class="MsoNormal"><span style="font-size: 12.0pt; line-height: 115%;">DeSantis’
team believes Trump is particularly vulnerable with Republican primary voters
on abortion. Although the former president appointed the Supreme Court justices
who overturned Roe v. Wade, he has drawn the ire of anti-abortion activists by
refusing to say whether he supports a federal ban on the procedure.<o:p></o:p></span></p>

part of the investigation and submit his response but despite that, he did not
feel it appropriate to become a part of the investigation. Because of this NAB
