English Premier League to resume remaining season on June17
Liverpool is expecting to win title after 30 years
English football fans finally have some good news. They will
be able to watch the top English clubs in action on their home screens in three
weeks’ time. But they will have to wait longer to watch football matches in the
stadium.
English Premier League
(EPL) clubs have agreed to restart the season on June 17. But the remaining matches will be played
without spectators in empty stadiums. The Premier League have desperately been
trying to finalise plans to get the season back underway again following its
suspension at the beginning of March amid the coronavirus crisis.
Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters said in a
statement: 'Today we have provisionally agreed to resume the Premier League on
Wednesday 17 June. But this date cannot be confirmed until we have met all the
safety requirements needed, as the health and welfare of all participants and
supporters is our priority.
The first two matches on June 17 will be played between Manchester
City vs Arsenal and Aston Villa vs Sheffield United. These two matches are the
'games in hand' for these four clubs, which will take all 20 Premier League
teams up to 29 fixtures for the season.
92 matches are going to be played in the remaining season. Liverpool
is leading at the points table and expected to win the title. This will be
first EPL title of Liverpool in 30 years. Liverpool has comfortable 25 point
lead over its nearest rival Manchester City.
A defeat to Manchester City against Arsenal in the first
match after the resumption and Liverpool victory against Everton will enough
for Liverpool to clinch the title. With that, the race to qualify for next
season's Champions League and a tight relegation battle will likely provide
plenty of entertainment. Norwich City, Aston Villa and Bournemouth
currently occupy the bottom three places in the table. They will
fight to lift them out of relegation zone.
