The gas shortfall has increased in Punjab

The severe weather conditions and low gas pressure continue to affect the the consumers in Punjab. As the temperatures dipped in the plains of Punjab, the gas pressure also dropped to the lowest level. Sui Northern Gas Pipelines limited (SNGPL) which provides gas to Punjab and KPK provinces is facing the short fall of 400 MMCFD at the moment. The company has diverted the gas from industries to the domestic consumers to meet the increased domestic demand. The company has five million consumers in Punjab and KPK and there demand is around 1900 MMCFD. SNGPL is providing around 1500 MMCFD to the domestic consumers. The shortfall and low pressure is irking the consumers.m

To meet the demand of domestic consumers and textile industry in Punjab, the SNGPL has curtailed the gas supply to fertiliser plants, CNG stations, some power plants and industrial units not yet transferred to the LNG. The company said that it continued its supplies to the textile units switched to the LNG.

The company has caught more than 3000 consumers using the illegal compressors to extract gas from the pipelines. The frequent use of compressors contribute towards low gas pressures and it also dangerous for the people.
