PP-70 Badin by elections- PPP trounced opponents with crushing win
PPP candidate Dada Muhammad Halipoto bagged 44,893 votes
According to unofficial results of all the 123 polling
stations of PP-70 Badin, PPP candidate trounced all the opponents and
convincingly wins the by election. PPP candidate Dada Muhammed Halipoto won the
by-election after securing 44,893 votes.
JUI-F candidate Maulana Gul Hassan came in second with 6,342
votes. JUI-F candidate was supported by PML-N and other opposition parties. TLP
(banned) candidate finished 3rd with 1,954 votes. The turnout was around 35%. Only 57,620 votes
were polled out of total 1,66,809 votes.
The seat had fallen vacant after PPP MPA Bashir Ahmed Halipoto
died on March 23. Halipoto was first elected from PS-55 in 2013 and then
re-elected from PS-70 during the 2018 General Election. He was also a member of
the Sindh Assembly Standing Committee on Labour and Human Resources.
In the 2018 general Election, late Basheer Ahmed Halipoto
had secured 44,385 while GDA candidate Riaz Ahmed secured 22,967
votes. PPP has retained its vote bank but opposition vote bank has fallen
drastically. Half of opposition voters did not turn up at the polling stations
in today’s by polls.
