More than 3000 Indian troops and paramilitary forces launched massive operation against militants in Shopian district. The Indian occupied forces besieged more than 20 villages and started house to house search. The clashes erupted between Indian forces and villagers against this high handed approach of the authorities. This operation was launched after the series of attacks against the forces.
Shopian district considered as the hotbed of militants since the killing of young militant commander Burhan Wani. There is strong reaction in the people against the continued use of the brute force by the Indian forces.
